How does a wine and ice cream tasting sound?

How does a wine and ice cream tasting sound? The simple question that changed our idea of ice cream forever. This event was not part of our busy schedule when we arrived in Mendoza but when asked the question by Fernando Soria, the ice cream maker and one of the business partners of Dolciao, an artisian creamery and pastry shop in Luján de Cuyo, we joyfully said yes.

We had never experienced something like this before and did not know what to expect when we arrived at Dolciao. What started with a Torrontés and Thyme sorbet and ended with an Alfajor and Cornstarch ice cream was a culinary experience that we will be talking about for the rest of our lives.

The wine paired with the ice cream was a Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc. It went perfectly with the ice cream as it did not mask any of the different flavors and held to the sweetness of its companions throughout the pairing.

Inspired by local flavors and ingredients, Dolciao is one of the rising stars of the Mendoza culinary movement. Their Roses, Lavender and Rosemary ice creams give you sensory disorientation as they taste exactly the way the plants smell. Torrontés and Grapefuit sorbets which are entirely true to the flavor of the fruit and Dulce de Leche and Maicena creations that represent the Mendoza culture, are also among the flavors that you can find at this must visit creamery.

Following you can see all of the flavors that we got to enjoy. Each of them tasted absolutely delicious and so true to its description. Wondering which one is our favorite? Well, maybe you can tell us after you have tasted them yourself..... but we strongly suggest that you do not leave the creamery without your Roses and Grapefruits.

What Fernando and his business partner, Vanina Marinero, are doing at Dolciao is something you should not miss if you are in Mendoza. Thanks for such an amazing time and tasting. Without a doubt the best ice cream we have ever had!
